With the arrival of June, many people begin to regularly visit forests, where it is easy to find large boletus mushrooms and juicy raspberries, wild strawberries and blueberries. Some people do it for themselves, to supplement their home harvest, while others plan to sell the harvest at markets or by the road to earn some extra money. It is worth knowing that for such action to be legal, they must obtain an appropriate entry in the betting register. Without it, they risk costly consequences.
Is it legal to sell mushrooms? Yes, if you complete the formalities
If you want to make money legally by selling collections, you must have the previously mentioned entry, for which you should contact the state district sanitary inspector. It is free to obtain and is intended to ensure consumer safety. According to “Rzeczpospolita”, you can receive a severe penalty for failing to comply with this obligation – from PLN 1,000 to PLN 5,000. zloty. However, this is not the end, as additional restrictions apply to mushrooms.
It is worth remembering that only mushrooms can be placed on the market:
- cultivated,
- growing in natural conditions.
In addition, they must be included in the list that can be found in the regulation of the Minister of Health of May 17, 2011. Selling other mushrooms that are not in the collection may result in poisoning or even death among buyers. Fresh and dried mushrooms are approved for trading by mushroom classifiers or mushroom experts, which is confirmed by the previously mentioned certificate.
Fresh mushrooms growing in natural conditions and dried mushrooms obtained from mushrooms growing in natural conditions may be offered to the final consumer only in commercial establishments or markets, provided that the appropriate certificate is obtained.

Selling mushrooms in an inappropriate place or without an entry is not the only activity that exposes you to a fine. In some places harvesting is strictly prohibited. This includes: about protected areas (reserves and national parks), game reserves, or areas reserved for troops. Such an offense may result in a fine of up to PLN 500. Picking mushrooms is also prohibited, which carries a fine of up to PLN 5,000. zloty.
