Piotr Wawrzyńczak was born on March 12, 1967 in Białystok. He apparently talked about becoming an actor when he was still a child, but he didn’t expect that his dreams would come true so quickly, and even with one of the most outstanding directors of Polish cinema. And it was him who saw Witek, the main character of the cult film “Chronicle of Love Accidents”, in the then 18-year-old naturalist.
Wajda’s debut opened the door to Wawrzyńczak’s career. Paulina Młynarska did not have the best memories of working on the set
The premiere of the production, based on the script and novel by Tadeusz Konwicki, took place in 1986, causing an immediate sensation. Alongside such stars as Tadeusz Łomnicki and Krystyna Zachwatowicz, the previously mentioned Wawrzyńczak, who was making his debut on screen, and the actress, who was 4 years younger than him, appeared as the main characters. He played a high school graduate from Vilnius who dreams of studying medicine, and she created the character of his beloved Alina. Viewers were delighted with the story about youthful impulse of hearts and ideals, but the behind-the-scenes of the film, which is considered one of the best of his achievements, caused huge controversy years later.
I was 14 years old when Andrzej Wajda, on the set of his film ‘Chronicle of Love Accidents’, forced me to act naked in a very brave scene (…). I was under the influence of sedatives and alcohol administered to me by other adults working on set
– Wojciech Młynarski’s daughter confessed some time ago, claiming that both the director and his collaborators had committed many abuses, not only towards her, but also towards her on-screen partner. – Piotrek and I were both in shock. Something in me broke then, something was damaged – she later told “Twój Styl”.
He completed his education and returned to the screens. Wawrzyńczak’s career was interrupted by an accident
Years later, Młynarska’s memories began to be associated with the unexpected disappearance of Wawrzyńczak, who was already hailed by many as the hope of Polish cinema. However, the real reason for his withdrawal from the industry were the studies he undertook right after successfully passing his high school leaving examination at the Krakow theater school. When he obtained his diploma in 1992, his career gained momentum again. After receiving an award at the 10th National Review of Diploma Performances of Theater Schools in Łódź, he appeared in the television film “Only Fear” alongside Jerzy Trela, Dorota Segda and . Although he could choose between roles, he was meticulous in his selection, even if it meant appearing not in the foreground, but in the background. During this time he played, among others, in “Szczur”, “Ekstradycja”, “Dom”, “Szamanka” and even the cult film, but his ambitions were much greater than the Polish market.
In 2002, his next great dream was to come true: starting a career abroad. All thanks to the Austrian drama “Jedermanns Fest”, the premiere of which, as we know, did not see the premiere. On June 6, 2001, 34-year-old Piotr Wawrzyńczak died in a car accident. His death shocked both fans and the entire artistic community, but its circumstances were never made public.
