“He was surrounded by swarms of ladies,” but he was crazy about the 17-year-old. He ended his career as a “UBC snitch”

Although he was connected with the world of film by accident, he was quickly hailed as one of the biggest stars of Polish cinema. Adam Pawlikowski delighted not only on the screen, but also off it, seducing beautiful women with whom he eagerly entered into affairs. Ultimately, mental illness and accusations of cooperation with the Security Service ruined his career, and boycotts of the community caused him to take his own life.

Adam Pawlikowski’s life was marked by many difficulties almost from the beginning. When World War II broke out, he was less than 14 years old, and yet he joined the uprising together with his older brother. After its fall, he was taken prisoner and after liberation he went to Italy to study medicine. However, the longing for his homeland turned out to be stronger and in 1947 he returned to the country. He began training in musicology, and although he was also involved in film criticism, writing for “Przegląd Kulturalny”, he never thought about acting.

Pawlikowski became an actor by accident. His debut with Wajda opened the door to his career and women’s hearts

Everything changed when he started working on the cult “Kanał”, looking for the impersonator of the mad composer who played the ocarina. It was then that Jan Krenz, responsible for the music, introduced him to Pawlikowski, who in his opinion was the perfect candidate to take on this task. And so he made his film debut, which turned out to be the beginning of his completely new path. He began to receive more and more offers, appearing on the small and big screen in productions such as “Cross-eyed Happiness”, “Goodbye, see you tomorrow…”, “Czterdziestolatka” or “Kolumbowie”. However, the real breakthrough was his role in “Ashes and Diamonds”, or rather the scene of setting glasses with spirit on fire, which he created together with . – Well-read, handsome. Almost demonic. He was a role model for many when it came to finding a place in life – said journalist Andrzej Roman about him.

It cannot be denied that at the peak of his popularity, Pawlikowski, called Duduś by everyone, was considered a real womanizer. He was always surrounded by a circle of beautiful women, and he willingly succumbed to their charms. However, no one knew that the actor had a weakness not only for the opposite sex, but also for men, which he successfully hid for years.

He was constantly surrounded by swarms of girls and ladies, and he favored them, so to speak, as an experiment. He mocked them without a trace of mercy

– Agnieszka Osiecka wrote about his affairs. Pawlikowski’s great secret was also cyclophrenia, known today as bipolar disorder. It was because of it that he often ended up in hospital or completely unexpectedly hid himself in the shadows for several, sometimes even several, weeks.

They were crazy about each other, but they couldn’t live together. Tuszyńska took revenge on Pawlikowski by marrying his friend

Many women appeared in his life, but his greatest love turned out to be . When they met on the set of “The White Bear”, she was 17 and he was twice her age. Despite this, they were united by a deep and, as it later turned out, obsessive feeling. He helped her develop her career, and although he pushed her in front of the camera, he was morbidly jealous. He was also afraid that his beloved would find out about his illness, so he alternately gave her gifts and then broke off the contact. The young actress did not want to remain in constant uncertainty. When he left her again, as revenge, she married Count Jan Zamoyski, who was his best friend. For Pawlikowski it was a blow, but also the beginning of a real ordeal. – Her long-term drama was that Pawlikowski seduced her. She fell madly in love. And then she spent her whole life doing everything to make Pawlikowski fall in love with her. Then she could dump him, just like he once dumped her, Kutz summed up their stormy relationship.

He was accused of collaborating with the Security Service. Due to the campaign and illness, Pawlikowski took his own life

The real beginning of the end of Pawlikowski’s career occurred when, in 1968, he was called as a witness in the trial of Janusz Szpotański, accused of writing a mocking opera about . As it turned out after his briefcase was revealed, the truth was completely different. During the interrogation, he was taken to hospital, and although he ultimately did testify because the Security Service blackmailed him by disclosing information about his sexual orientation, the information was completely irrelevant to the development of the investigation. Despite this, the news quickly spread among the community that “Duduś” was an agent and a campaign began. In just a few days, he turned from a respected actor into a “secret police snitch”. He was sent to an insane asylum again, and after leaving it, he no longer resembled himself. He radiated joy, only to attack his friends for no reason at other times. – I am in hell – he explained to Jerzy Karaszkiewicz, apologizing for his behavior.

As a result of the scandal and false accusations, Pawlikowski stopped playing and lost all means of living. In the most difficult moment, he had nothing to eat and borrowed money from Tuszyńska and his brother, who were the only ones who did not distance themselves from him. Deep in despair and overcome by a disease over which he had completely lost control, on January 17, 1976, he jumped out of the window of his apartment on the 8th floor, committing suicide.
