This title is one of the most important films in the genre of the upcoming destruction of the Earth. “Armageddon” still haunts us, as long as you listen to the radio – Aerosmith’s song has been playing on the most popular radio stations across the country almost every day since 1998. The film is rarely shown on TV screens anymore – wrongly so, because it is an epic fight against time and duty. , a heart and an asteroid rushing towards Earth. Inevitable destruction also awaits us in “The day after tomorrow“. It’s also a “teenagers vs. disaster” film, which is an additional attraction. “The Day After Tomorrow” has everything you need – still great special effects (the film was made in 2004), quite a realistic plot, a good idea. There’s also diving. , and freezing cold, tornadoes and giant hailstones… Don’t these recent weather anomalies remind you of what has been happening in Poland in recent weeks? For the second leg, when it comes to global catastrophe, I recommend extremely nonsense “2012“. You probably remember the madness surrounding THIS year – in 2012, according to the Mayan calendar, the Earth was supposed to end its existence. “2012” is on a different level of absurdity than the previous annihilations, what counts here is the escape of the family unit from subsequent spectacular catastrophes. It will be dissolving. the ground, the last flight of the plane, a limousine ride between fires… It’s really hard to say what (apart from sense) is missing in “2012” – there’s probably everything here, and certainly a lot of great and not particularly demanding fun. From the same slightly absurd category, you can choose a movie screening for the evening “Geostorm“. The stupidity of the conspiracy is one thing, but the cinematography in “Geostorm”, the special effects, the absolute destruction – this is something beautiful that deserves your attention. But unfortunately, the plot is not the strongest point of “Geostorm”. Fortunately, it is a filler between one a disaster and the other a storm and a tornado. “Geostorm” can be watched at Netflixwhich I highly recommend, but make popcorn before the screening.

Since we’ve already been to space with “Geostorm”, let’s fly even further. Here’s “The Wandering Earth“, a Chinese film adaptation of a story by Cixin Liu. It is slightly longer than a standard football match and its greatest strength is its impressive scope and beautifully made special effects. Let’s skip the plot, because it is extremely long, but because of the photos it is worth taking a closer look at this production. If and the film adaptation will bore you (unfortunately, the film does not defend itself in this respect), read the story. It is only 50 pages long and you will be able to read it before the match ends. The film is available on the platform Netflixand the story in the volume “Wandering Earth” (Rebis Publishing House).

The next proposition is a film for which I have great sentiment. “Volcano” is a rather local disaster, with a small scope, but with a wonderful execution and a perfectly absurd idea. Or at least that’s how I remember it, when in primary school I watched it on a video rented from a friend – first “Pocahontas” was obligatory, and then, equally obligatory, “Volcano”, which I never admitted to my parents. The scenes of the explosion, the lava flooding the city and the subway driver getting stuck in the lava are forever in my memory. Fortunately, “Vulcan” can be watched on Disney Plus – is it a coincidence that you can also play “Pocahontas” earlier? I dare say I doubt it.

“Doomsday” is a must-see, although today it seems a bit cliche. There is everything here, but unlike previous disaster films, the most important thing here is not the disaster, but the behavior of people fighting for survival. It is doubly terrifying because it is not that far from the truth and how we would behave today if the government organized a lottery for places in the bunker guaranteeing survival. You will see a fantastic film from 1998 at Amazon Prime Video.

The latest proposal is, unlike the previous ones, a film bathing in an ocean of absurdity and saying to destruction “hold my beer, I have a lot of sharks”. Yes, of course it’s about “Sharknado“. The film was made in response to the madness around 2012. Everything is bad here. Horrible acting, idiotic idea, terribly pathetic special effects, but the icing on the cake are hundreds of sharks. And that’s the point, sometimes you don’t need anything more Even though “Sharknado” is only a little over ten years old, it is already a classic of bad movies.
