During the presidency of Jacek Kurski, Telewizja Polska produced various documentaries that were allegedly intended to expose the truth about the political opponents of Law and Justice. One of this type of production was supposed to attack Donald Tusk, and its creation was reported by “Newsweek” a few years ago. The official premiere never took place, but the film could be watched online for a while.
Donald Tusk, who hates Poland, was the daily bread of TVP’s “good change”. But this film was ultimately never shown
The almost final version of the propaganda film “The King of Europe” directed by a certain Ewa Świecińska was obtained by the Goniec portal, which published it on YouTube on Tuesday evening. “We decided to publish the film without asking for the consent of Telewizja Polska, because the public interest requires it. The society has the right to know how public money was wasted and how a public institution was harnessed in the service of propaganda,” Janusz Schwertner, the head of the portal, justified the publication of the film.
The former head of TVP, Jacek Kurski, firmly distanced himself from the production and published an extensive post on the subject on the X portal. “In the public space, in a ritual and repeated attack on the old TV, a new curiosity has appeared. The Goniec portal, which enjoys a reputation as a trigger, reveals: ‘Yes, Kurski he intended to attack Tusk. We are publishing a mysterious TVP film that has never seen the light of day. The article is accompanied by a ‘film’. The text accuses me of preparing a lampoon against Donald Tusk.
The general director of TVP, Tomasz Sygut, also reacted to the publication, stating that the public company respects the public interest differently. “The film in question violates all journalistic standards of the civilized world, which is why even the cynical propagandist Jacek Kurski and his collaborators at that time did not decide to broadcast it on TVP,” we read.
Publishing lies and slander invented for aggressive political propaganda is never in the public interest. We are surprised that some Polish journalists perceive it this way, and at a time of such strong polarization of society, hacker attacks on the Polish state, the war in Ukraine and hybrid activities on our eastern border – he adds later in the message.
TVP demands the removal of the propaganda film. He refers to… copyright to the material
There was no need to wait for the Messenger’s boss’s response. Janusz Schwertner says in an interview that he does not fully understand the reaction of the general director of TVP. “The media has repeatedly published – of course with the appropriate context – materials showing the propaganda practiced within a given camp or system. Thanks to this, even though I was born in free Poland, I had the opportunity to see many editions of the PRL Television Journal in their entirety,” we read .
In turn, during Jacek Kurski’s times, Jakub Sobieniowski on TVN24 decided several times to publish fragments of TVP’s “Wiadomości”, enriched with context but shown 1:1. , put it in the worst possible light. We published this film so that viewers could see how kitsch the propaganda of Kurski’s times was, financed by public funds – says Janusz Schwertner.
– Mr. Sygut wrote a very emotional statement. His emotions lead him to refer to the hybrid war in which I am allegedly involved. I will leave it without comment, it is a multi-layered absurdity – adds the head of Goniec and states that the general director of TVP “is also misleading the public opinion: Kurski did not suspend that film because it was ‘too strong’.”
I investigated the matter and I know beyond any doubt: the PiS TVP did not broadcast this film because it was hopeless in terms of craftsmanship. And that’s it. They were ashamed to admit that, despite large expenditures, they produced such rubbish. This production does not attack Tusk, it ridicules TVP. And it is a warning: let us never again allow Television to fall directly into the hands of politicians.
Moreover, it turned out that Telewizja Polska demanded the Goniec portal to quickly remove the material from the portal and from all channels on which it was published. Schwertner admitted that he had already received a letter from TVP on this matter. – There is a quite shocking fragment in which the new authorities of TVP… demand the copyright to the propaganda “work” of Jacek Kurski’s people. I handed this letter over to our lawyers for analysis – concludes the head of Goniec.
Dispute over a propaganda film about Tusk. And the production has already been removed
At the time of publication of this article, the film is no longer available for viewing on YouTube. As we read: “Video unavailable. This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim filed by Telewizja Polska SA.”
