On June 11, we officially welcomed the Max platform to Poland, which replaced the previously operating HBO Max service. The new streamer also took over a large part of the offer of Player.pl, a portal that switched to a paid subscription model in 2021. As announced, Warner Bros. Discovery will once again become a free platform with ad-supported content, but there will be much less of it than before.
Max entered Poland. What’s next for Player?
Currently, Player.pl offers viewers several packages. The cheapest monthly subscription costs PLN 15 and provides access to ad-supported content. For a package without ads, portal users have to pay PLN 23 per month. With the arrival of Max, using Player may turn out to be unprofitable, especially for people who have both subscriptions at the same time. From now on, all premiere episodes of TVN group programs, series and documentaries will be automatically added to Max’s library.
In this way, Warner Bros. Discovery wants to encourage Player users to switch to the new platform. “We want all users of the paid version of Player to switch to Max within a year,” said Maciej Gozdowski, head of streaming at Warner Bros. Discovery. Not only premiere content will be removed from Player.pl’s offer, but also broadcasts from the entire Olympic Games. According to the announcements of Dorota Eberhardt, programming director of Max in Poland, the new platform’s offer will include as many as 27,000 hours of materials, of which domestic productions will constitute over 1/4 of all content. The new website will premiere new episodes of popular Polish series, including the fourth season of “Skazana”.
