This moment came, as the actor spoke with tears in his eyes in a conversation with Piers Morgan, a controversial British journalist looking for cheap sensation:
This week I’m selling my house in Baltimore, where I used to live. I need to move all my stuff into storage. I’ve lived in this house since we started filming House of Cards. I can’t afford to pay the bills. I have thought about declaring bankruptcy several times, but we have always managed to avoid it – until now. I don’t know where I will live.
When asked how much money he had, he replied: Nothing. I have a lot of obligations to pay for this.
The amount that Spacey owes (which, due to the scandal surrounding the actor, had to completely change film plans, reorganize the work of hundreds of people or cancel their contracts altogether), is reportedly counted – according to the actor – in millions of dollars. Spacey is currently unemployable, which means he has no new income that would allow him to repay his debts.
However, this did not happen without a reason. Kevin Spacey’s problems began in 2017, when information about the actor’s inappropriate behavior on film sets appeared in the American media. Those men who decided to make official accusations later lost in court due to lack of evidence – they had no way to prove that Spacey allegedly forced sexual intercourse on them, touched them in their private parts at work and used the “master-disciple” relationship to achieve sexual benefits. However, the machine set in motion, and as information about Spacey increased, although not all cases ended in court, the actor lost contracts.
In a recently published two-part documentary, those who have had contact with the actor over several decades. He forced them to have sexual contact, groped them, invited them to private parties for two people, and promised help in their careers. None of them gained anything from knowing the actor, but some submitted to his actions and fulfilled his wishes. The reasons were different – some were afraid of losing their jobs, others calculated that thanks to one night they would gain a prosperous life. Some of the abuses allegedly occurred while Spacey was still a student, and others occurred at various stages of his career.
Kevin Spacey admits he behaved ‘bad, bad, bad’
In the interview with Piers Morgan, there were questions about Spacey’s behavior towards other men. The actor admits that what he did should not have happened. “I was behaving bad, bad, bad,” he says.
I was pushing the envelope. I reached out too willingly and too quickly, touching someone in a sexual way that I didn’t know they didn’t want. But I was gentle and didn’t force anyone to grope! I wanted them to react positively! – added.
When asked what exactly it looked like from his perspective – whether all such contacts were consensual or whether they were rejected attempts at seduction, Kevin Spacey replied with disarming honesty:
They could have told me that they didn’t want it, so I would have known that they did not consent to such activities.
Piers Morgan remained conscious here and asked whether Kevin Spacey was aware that the young actor who refused him could have been concerned about the development of his career. The Oscar winner replied: Yes. And I take responsibility for my bad, bad, bad behavior.
At the same time, he described the constantly emerging stories about his violent conquests of young men as “false”. He would like to return to acting.
