Everything changed only in 2013, when the book “Chasing Memory” was published, in which the actress revealed the details of her first marriage.
Szapołowska met her first husband during the performance. She was 22 years old when she married him
Lewandowski caught Szapołowska’s attention for the first time during one of the performances at the Rozmaitości theater in Warsaw. At that time, she was a fresh student of a theater school, and he had already performed several roles for which he was appreciated by critics and viewers.

The first serious conflicts quickly appeared between them. It turned out that for Lewandowski, getting married was tantamount to starting a family, while Szapołowska planned to devote herself fully to her career. Marriage was a big step for her, and the thought of children at that time paralyzed her.
I got scared. After all, I was so young, only 23 years old. I wanted to finish my studies, but I wasn’t ready for marriage or a child
– she said years later. She had been thinking about it practically from the very beginning, but only when 11 months after the ceremony, during a holiday trip to Romania with a friend, she made the final decision. Lewandowski could not forgive her for this, and the breakup took place in a stormy atmosphere. Today, neither of them wants to recall that period. – It was colorful, but only an episode in my life – later.
Ultimately, the actor found happiness with Joanna. They have been married for over three decades and together they have four children. In turn, Szapołowska was married twice more: with Andrzej Jungowski, with whom she has a daughter, Katarzyna, and with Paweł Potoroczyn.
