Zamioculcas falls and does not grow new leaves? Change one thing and it will be the star of the living room again

Zamiokulkas is an ideal plant for rooms that do not receive much sunlight. It is not very demanding and does not need to be watered often, which is why Poles are so eager to grow it. However, it may happen that the flower starts to fall. What to do then?

Zamioculcas zamiofolia is perfect for beginners and people who would like to have a flower at home, but do not remember to water it regularly. The plant has shiny and fleshy dark green leaves. At first glance, it resembles a fern or a palm tree. People also often confuse zamioculcas with zamia, which belongs to the cycad family. However, these are two completely different plants.

How to water zamioculcas? This is a real tough plant

Zamioculcas naturally grows in Zanzibar and Tanzania. The soil there is poor in nutrients, so it stores water in the leaves. This is why it is so durable and copes well with unfavorable conditions. It can be grown in warm, dry and poorly lit rooms. It is best to fill the pot with fertile, humus-rich, slightly acidic and well-drained soil.

Zamioculcas is a succulent, so it does not need frequent watering. It should be watered sparingly and only when the top layer of soil is slightly dry. Use the leftovers at room temperature. Avoid soaking the leaves. Otherwise, ugly residue may appear on them and they will lose their shine.

Why doesn’t the zamioculcas grow new leaves and fall off? Three common mistakes

Although zamioculcas is very hardy and tolerates drought well, it may happen that it begins to fall or stop growing. Most often it is caused by incorrect watering – you water the plant too often or too rarely. Remember that water should not stand in the pot and the substrate cannot be completely dry. The second common mistake is placing the flower in full sun. It feels best in a semi-shaded position, e.g. in the back of the room, where the light is diffused. If you put it on the windowsill, it will only get tired. Also make sure you have an appropriate pot and drainage. Zamioculcas has a strongly developed root system. If it is too tight, it will stop developing. If you feel like it, vote in our poll below.
