All species of snails are harmful to some extent, but snails, i.e. those without a shell, are considered the worst. They reproduce very quickly because they are hermaphrodites and all lay eggs. A garden full of them is the perfect place to develop. They love beets, beans, peppers, lettuce, zucchini, head cabbage and Chinese cabbage. Their feeding is favored by moisture, rainy weather and fertile soil.

Snails cause damage not only in the vegetable garden, but also in greenhouses and foil tunnels. If you don’t want them to come to your garden, you should take preventive measures from early spring. Contrary to appearances, pests are quite picky and do not eat all plants. There are some that they won’t touch at all, and what’s more, their aroma is a deterrent to them.

These are:

• nasturtium,
• common yarrow,
• narrow-leaved lavender,
• garden daylily,
• paniculate flame,
• myrtle spurge,
• sedum,
• bush evening primrose.

Plant them in the garden and they will become a natural protective barrier against snails.

How to get rid of snails without a shell? Sprinkle around the plants

Pests also do not like plants that we use in the kitchen every day, e.g. sage, mustard, marjoram, savory, garlic, onion, chamomile. Snails often lay their eggs in moist places just above the ground. When weeding, loosen the soil with a hoe. This will bring the eggs to the surface. A proven method is to mix sand with ash, gravel or sawdust and sprinkle the mixture around the plants. You can also sprinkle the ground with egg shells. Mollusks do not cope well with loose substrates, so they will prefer to move to another place where the conditions will be more favorable for them.
