Nowadays, we should watch out for potential fraudsters at every step. They send text messages, call, and impersonate their loved ones. As technology develops, the number of potential threats increases. All it takes is a moment of distraction to make a mistake that could have serious consequences. For this reason, experts appeal, among others, to be careful about the content we post on social media. Małgorzata Sokołowska, in turn, warned against disclosing her data in public space.
“Remember to never say your personal information out loud”
When we fill a prescription at a pharmacy or shop in a store, the question about personal data appears in public space quite often. We often respond automatically and do not realize that this makes it easier for fraudsters. “Remember never to give out your personal data aloud. You never know who is standing behind you, who is listening to your conversation,” the policewoman noted.
Beware of fraudsters in the store. “Don’t do it out loud”
Then she suggested how to react when asked about sensitive data. “When you fill a prescription at a pharmacy, check in at a hotel or want to use a loyalty program and give your phone number, do not do it out loud. Have a piece of paper and a pen with you on which you can write down all the data that the person asks you for for verification purposes” – she pointed.
If you don’t have a piece of paper with you, you can use the notebook on your phone. At the same time, it is worth asking the person talking to us not to say our details out loud and to remain discreet. It’s common for service workers, unaware of the risks, to read data aloud to check if they’ve made a mistake. Before they do it, make it clear that you don’t want it.
