In what container should you throw away the butter packaging? It depends. The answer is not obvious

The general obligation to segregate municipal waste has been in force for several years. Despite this, many people still make common mistakes in situations that might seem obvious. Do you know where to throw away butter packaging?

Even though waste segregation does not seem to be a difficult issue, it still causes a lot of problems. Especially if we are dealing with food packaging, which is often dirty or made of more than one material. This is the case, among others, with butter packaging. Which container should it go into? Turns out it depends.

How to segregate waste properly? This is not always obvious

Municipal segregation is mandatory in Poland. Currently, we should divide garbage into five fractions, namely: metals and plastics (yellow containers), glass (green), paper (blue), kitchen waste (brown) and mixed waste (black). In addition, in some communes there is a separation of glass into colorless and colored glass, and sometimes there are also ash containers. Although the schedule may seem simple and clear, in reality it can be problematic. Especially when we are dealing with products made of a given material, but dirty. This is the case, among others, with butter packaging. Should it really always go into the yellow bins?

Where to throw away the butter silver? Not everyone realizes this

Butter packaging is most often made of paper, foil or plastic. And this largely determines where they should go. What exactly is the situation?

  • Plastic butter packaging or margarine should be thrown into yellow containers, i.e. for metals and plastics. Don’t forget that they must be completely empty.
  • Buttered paper should land in black container, or more precisely, mixed waste. All because it is usually dirty, greasy, often waxed and aluminum foil is used for its production. Remember that only dry and clean paper is suitable for sorting.
  • Paper and aluminum foil packaging, if you prepare it properly, may end up in other containers. Soak them to separate the paper from the paper, then throw the paper into the mixed waste or compost, and the cleaned foil into the yellow container, i.e. for metals and plastics.
