Not only crystals. The most wanted things from the Polish People’s Republic. This treasure may be worth up to PLN 1,000

Sentiments and longing for the old times make trinkets from years ago a real treat, not only for collectors. The most valuable items of the Polish People’s Republic can cost thousands at auctions. An example would be glass plates with a characteristic shape.

Among the items manufactured and designed in modern times, everyday items are very popular. Collectors, but not only them, hunt for sugar bowls, chocolate boxes, vases, plates, dinner sets, cups, glasses, as well as platters and decorations. Today, things that a few years ago were associated with grandma’s kitsch can reach dizzying prices at auctions. Of course, the price some sellers want for an item does not necessarily reflect its value. However, it usually allows you to estimate it.

The most valuable items of the Polish People’s Republic. Not only crystals. Today, this plate can cost up to PLN 1,000

Some people, having no idea of their value, throw many of these items straight into the trash or give them away for free. Meanwhile, it turns out that an inconspicuous glass plate on which grandma once placed cakes for Sunday tea can now cost several hundred zlotys. This applies to many “crystals” and glass objects. Such trinkets are considered the most valuable for a reason.

They used to be in virtually every home, but today there are fewer and fewer of them on the market. An example would be fish-shaped glass plates. Designed in the 1960s and 1970s by Jan Sylwester Drost and produced in the “Ząbkowice” Glassworks in Dąbrowa Górnicza, “flatfish” (or “flounder”) are today among the most valuable of the Polish People’s Republic.

This can be proven by the prices they achieve online. Fish-shaped glass plates and coasters are relatively rare today, so there are few active auctions. On one of them, a single plate in good condition, without major scratches, is offered. The others are offered for PLN 800 and 550. The largest Polish auction house, in turn, sells “fish”

Not just a plate. A glass fish from the Polish People’s Republic stood on every second TV

This is not the only PRL “fish” hunted by collectors today. Characteristic glass figurines of fish decorated with colorful streaks once stood on TV sets and wall units in almost every home. Such trinkets were produced in many Polish (and not only) steelworks, in many shapes, sizes and even colors. How much is it worth today?
