“Ordinary lies” about Tadeusz Rydzyk. Radio Maryja issued an announcement

On June 2, a statement issued by the Radio Maryja Support Team was published on the Radio Maryja website. The extensive declaration was signed by prof. Ph.D. engineer Janusz Kawecki, chairman of the group and former member of the National Broadcasting Council in 2016-2022. This is the aftermath of recent events involving Donald Tusk and Tadeusz Rydzyk.

Let us recall that on Friday, May 24, the Prime Minister went to a meeting with the inhabitants of Białystok, during which he stated that “the Polish state will not finance any more empires like the empire of Tadeusz Rydzyk’s father.” Three days later, Tadeusz Rydzyk replied to Donald Tusk on Radio Maryja: “I am writing to you, Mr. Prime Minister, referring to the frequent narrative of you and your political group about ‘Father Rydzyk’s empire’, about the previous government allegedly giving me huge amounts of money. Mr. Rydzyk Prime Minister! This is misleading those listening to you,” said the priest.

Radio Maryja about “depriving rights” by Donald Tusk

After these events, a message appeared on the station’s website regarding “lies appearing in the media about the Father Director and the family of Radio Maryja.” In the introduction to the extensive statement, the clergy mentioned the “outright lies about the Father Director and the entire Radio Maryja Family” pushed in the media. According to the authors of the text, it is politicians of the ruling parties who are most willing to criticize the Toruń radio station. The Radio Maryja Support Team also quoted the content of the preamble to the Constitution of the Republic of Poland and referred to three articles regarding relations between the state and the church, freedom of citizens and religion, and discrimination. Later in the statement, the clergy said that the prime minister was trying to deprive priests of the rights “belonging to works created for the good of man and the common good.”

The authors of the statement also recalled the 2018 judgment issued in connection with the term “Father Rydzyk’s empire”, for which its creator “had to apologize to the priest”. The Radio Maryja Support Team stated that the radio station’s activities are financed solely from donations made by listeners. “None of the evangelization works created in the atmosphere created by Radio Maryja have received and do not receive subsidies from public sources,” we read in the statement signed by Janusz Kawecki.
