‘Peaky Blinders’ movie finally confirmed. Cillian Murphy made an emotional statement

Netflix has confirmed that work is underway on a film that will be a spin-off of “Peaky Blinders”. An excited Cillian Murphy informed fans that he would be returning as Tommy Shelby.

Netflix has shared a photo of a script titled “A Peaky Blinders” on X. It has also been confirmed that Cillian Murphy – now an Oscar winner – will reprise his role as gangster Tommy Shelby. Netflix’s post reads:

A few words from Cillian Murphy: Looks like Tommy Shelby isn’t done with me… It’s very satisfying to be working with Steven Knight and Tom Harper again on the film version of ‘Peaky Blinders’. We are making this production for the fans.

Hopefully, fans won’t have to wait long for the film to hit the screens. There are rumors that production on the as-yet-untitled feature film will begin later this year. The six-season series ended in 2002.

The script was written by original series creator Steven Knight. Tom Harper, who directed many episodes of the first season of “Peaky Blinders”, will return in this role to the set of the film. Additional details are being kept under wraps, however, and no other cast members’ names have been announced.

A story inspired by life

In February 2022, in the last episodes, Tommy Shelby continued the fight against the fascist politician Oswald Mosley and faced difficult family arrangements. Back then, fans of the production had hopes for a seventh season, but they were dashed. The creators sometimes mentioned that a film might be made someday, but so far these were only vague announcements.

The story presented in the BBC blockbuster was inspired by the life of a gang operating in Birmingham in the early 1920s. The widely feared members of the Peaky Blinders owe their name to the hats they wear with sewn-in razor blades.
