The Olite Theater Festival, which will be held from July 19 to August 4, is celebrating its 25th anniversary, and this year it is made up of 27 performances, of which 14 have been created, written or directed by women, as indicated lto the Minister of Culture of the Government of Navarra, Rebeca Esnaola, who has indicated that, in addition, eight of the works will be represented by Navarrese companies.

This year, Pitillas will join the towns where the festival activities will take place along with San Martín de Unx, Olite, Tafalla and Beire.

Music, dance, circus and theater coexist in the program, and only one of the 27 shows will be in Basque: “104 Haurra” (Yarleku Teatro), directed by Jokin Oregi, on Friday, July 26, at Tafalla Kulturgunea.

In addition to the performances, Olite will host two creative residencies, four training workshops and two meetings with artists and journalists. A series has also been scheduled to commemorate the 25th anniversary with a gala, three round tables and three exhibitions.

This year 10 shows have been scheduled at La Cava de Olite, the main stage of the festival. The first will take place on Friday, July 19, with the show ‘Forever’, a production by the Kulunka Teatro that focuses on the silent language of masks, directed by Iñaki Rikarte.

On Saturday the 20th, the Chévere company will present ‘Helen Keller, the Wonder Woman?’, directed by Xron, and on Sunday the 21st it will be the turn of ‘Moríos’, by Cultura i Conflicte and Teatre de l’Aurora.

The activity returns to La Cava on Friday the 26th with ‘Villa’, a production by the Chilean company Teatro Playa, directed by Guillermo Calderón, while, the next day, ‘Mal de coraçon’, by Victoria Szpunberg, a production of the Companyia Solitària” directed by Andrea Jiménez.

And on Sunday the 28th it will be the turn of ‘Casting Lear’, a production by Barco Pirata, Teatro de la Abadía and Andrea Jiménez.

On Wednesday, July 31, the activity resumes with ‘Ezkaba’, by the Navarrese company Iluna Producciones, a work written and directed by Miguel Goikoetxandía, and on Friday, August 2, the Navarrese Led Silhouette will present ‘Halley’, a dance show contemporary with direction and choreography by Jon López and Martxel Rodríguez.

A day later, ‘Macho Screams’, a musical comedy directed and starring Alberto San Juan, has been programmed. The last performance at La Cava will feature the humor of ‘Iribarne’, by the Galician band ButacaZero.

Tickets for the shows will go on sale June 4.
