How to make garlic grow big bulbs? Two details are key
Winter garlic is planted in autumn, spring garlic – in early spring, i.e. in March or early April. The one planted in spring begins to develop at the turn of May and June, and winters about 3 weeks earlier. After approximately 120 days of vegetation, you can start harvesting your first crops. The period of head development is crucial. This is when it is necessary to ensure proper hydration. The soil cannot be too dry, so remember to water it regularly. Important there is also topping of shoots, i.e. removing flower buds.
When and how to tie garlic? The right moment is key
One way to increase yields, but also to improve their quality, is to bind garlic. This method was already used by our grandparents and no wonder, because it sometimes brings surprising results. No more tied shoots, the plant puts all its energy into developing and strengthening the bulbs. Moreover, after harvesting, it is easier to store such garlic.

A sign that garlic is ready for harvest is when the leaves dry out and turn brown. Usually this moment falls in July. It is best to bind garlic about 5-10 days before the planned harvest. It is very important not to do this too early. Why? Tying causes the leaves to dry out, over time limiting the supply of nutrients to the bulbs.
