The series directed by Janusz Dymek was once an undisputed hit on Polish Television. The first episode was broadcast in mid-May 1968, and Darek Tarkowski and the cat Rademenes, who he saved from the hands of local hooligans, immediately won the sympathy of the viewers. The success was undoubtedly determined not only by the engaging plot, but also by the star cast. The screen stars included: , Witold Dębicki and Zbigniew Buczkowski, alongside whom the then 14-year-old Daniel Kozakiewicz, who played the main role, began his career.

The greatest emotions and curiosity of the audience, especially the younger ones, were aroused by a cat from ancient Egypt speaking with a human voice. Exactly the one who uttered the famous spell “Hator, hator, hator”. As Kozakiewicz revealed in one of the interviews, he was played by not one animal, but three. However, the cats were not particularly willing to cooperate, and due to the limited budget, the creators could not afford to hire a special cat. – A cat does not come when called, like a dog – actor in “Fakt”.
For this reason, a puppet was used in the most difficult scenes, but the effect did not always meet expectations. Then a rumor appeared that one of them was to be euthanized and subjected to taxidermy, for which its owner received generous compensation. Even Maciej Zembaty, dubbing Rademenes, confirmed this during a meeting with fans. Only years later it turned out that the artist famous for his dark humor was joking this time. – I have to deny: no one put down any cat to animate it later, because we animated the puppet, frame by frame in the montage – based on a joke in “Dzień Dobry TVN”. He did it as a sort of revenge, as working with cats required enormous effort. When the final slap was given on set, he felt a huge sense of relief. – Nobody tired the animals, rather the animals tired us because they didn’t want to play – he argued.

However, there is a grain of truth in every rumor and this is also the case. The creators of the series did not pay attention to the four-legged actors, so during breaks from filming they only did what they wanted. Due to their lack of adaptation to the conditions on the set, they could not find a place. One of the cats clearly couldn’t cope with the presence of so many people and the ubiquitous spotlights. The second one relieved stress by marking the area, but the worst thing was the aggression towards the team members. The last of them, although he was calm, even seemed not particularly concerned about what was happening around him and played various tricks.
