Frying meat, especially steak, to our liking can be quite a challenge. Keeping it on the heat for too short a time will result in a raw middle, and too long will result in the consistency of the sole. With the help of a simple trick, this will never be a problem for you again.
How to prepare meat so that it doesn’t taste like sole? Select doneness level
Many people cannot imagine a filling dinner without a juicy piece of meat. Unfortunately, preparing a larger piece can be problematic. All it takes is a moment of inattention for it to burn, or on the contrary, fry it for too short a time and the inside will be inedible. The problem is even greater when you cook for several people, each of whom has slightly different preferences regarding doneness. This applies primarily to steaks, but not only. They can be equally difficult to prepare for burgers. How to fry them so that they always turn out the way you want? Contrary to appearances, it’s very simple.
She was a juror in “MasterChef”. She revealed a useful trick for frying meat
An easy and quick trick to check the doneness of meat was shared by Melissa Leong, an Australian critic, author of books and former judge from “MasterChef Australia”. The woman showed how to do it in a second and without using additional tools. All you need is… fingers. What is her method?
How to check if a steak is done? Fingers are enough
Melissa Leong shared her trick during “MasterChef” when one of the contestants was preparing meat. She approached her station and asked if she knew how to check the doneness level by touch. It turned out that it was enough to check the softness of the prepared piece (with a spatula) and compare it to three parts of the face that should be poked with a finger.
- If it looks like a slap in the face, it means that it is “rare”, i.e. undone.
- Beard-like softness means “medium rare”.
- Hardness comparable to the forehead means “well done”.
