The importance of D-mannose in the treatment of recurrent and first symptoms of urinary tract infections

Urinary tract infection is a troublesome condition that mainly affects women. If left uncured or treated incorrectly, it may recur. That is why the appropriate selection of treatment therapy is so important. Preparations containing D-mannose are gaining in importance.

Urinary bladder infection (UTI) is one of the most common reasons for visits to doctors. The vast majority of them are caused by the bacterium Escherichia coli (E. coli), commonly called the fecal bacilli because it commonly occurs in the large intestine. It is believed to be responsible for almost 90%. cases of illness [1]. This bacterium can get from the anus to the urethral opening, then to the bladder and multiply there. We then feel pain in the lower abdomen, itching and burning, difficulty in urinating and painful pressure on the bladder. If left untreated, blood may also appear in the urine, and the bacteria may travel further and reach the kidneys.

Due to the anatomical structure and the close proximity of the vaginal opening, urethra and rectum, UTI affects women more often than men. Available data show that 80-90 percent women suffer from urinary tract inflammation at least once during their lives. Nearly one fifth of women suffer from a urinary tract infection once a year, and about 2 percent he has infections even once a month [2].

Risk factors for UTI

The risk of infection is increased by anatomical conditions – short urethra, small distance from the anus. Frequent bladder infections may also result from genetic predisposition. They may also be caused by sexual contact, during which Escherichia coli bacteria may enter the urethra. Infections are also caused by poor hygiene habits, e.g. disturbing the pH balance by using inappropriate cosmetics, but also by infrequent or incomplete urination – even the smallest amount of residual urine is an excellent food for bacteria. Frequent infections may be caused by a weakened immune system, which may be the result of antibiotic therapy, an improper diet low in minerals and vitamins, or excessive stress.

Intimate infections are also caused by cold and moist conditions, e.g. wearing wet swimsuits, which lead to constriction and poorer blood supply to the mucous membranes. Drinking too little fluid also leads to less frequent urination and the spread of bacteria.

Appropriate therapy is key

UTI develops very quickly, so it is important to take appropriate action at the first symptoms. What mistakes should be avoided during treatment? It should be remembered that antibacterial drugs used too hastily not only increase the risk of drug resistance of microorganisms, but also disturb the protective flora. Preparations containing D-mannose are gaining in importance.

D-mannose is a non-metabolized sugar, so after taking it, a large amount of it goes to the bladder and forms a protective layer on its walls. This effectively prevents Escherichia coli bacteria from nesting in the membrane and multiplying. The pathogen has fimbriae with which it attaches to the epithelium. D-mannose tightly surrounds the fimbriae, causing the bacteria to drift and then be washed away in the urine.

D-mannose is safe and effective for most people, but may not be suitable for everyone. People with sugar intolerance or D-mannose intolerance should avoid consuming it. It can be used by pregnant women after consulting a doctor. Its effectiveness has been clinically tested. It works from 1 dose, and 25%. patients were free from symptoms of infection already on the first day, and 87 percent after 3 days of use [3]. It is also important that D-mannose does not adversely interact with other substances, which is important in the case of people who constantly take medications.

Femannose® N for urinary tract infection

Preparations containing D-mannose do not disturb the natural, protective flora and do not cause drug resistance in bacteria. One of such preparations is Femannose® N. It is a medical device in convenient sachets. It can be used alone or together with antibiotics in more advanced infections. Femannose® N contains 2g of D-mannose – this is the most on the market. The preparation is distinguished by its simple, vegan composition and speed of action. It not only comprehensively prevents urinary tract infections, but also supports its quick removal when it is too late for prevention. Its effectiveness, safety of use and ability to alleviate the symptoms of this unpleasant ailment make it recommended by as many as 97%. [4] patients. The preparation is safe for people with gluten intolerance and diabetics.

Additionally, in the treatment of urinary tract inflammation, it is important to drink an appropriate amount of fluids – preferably 2 liters of water a day. This is important for flushing the urethra. It is also important to urinate regularly as soon as the need arises and to allow yourself time to relax and rest.
