“Matylda” is one of the most popular series on Polish Television in recent years. He talked about the inhabitants of Brzezina and their dilemmas. The plot of the production was set against the background of breakthrough moments in Polish history. The action takes place after the January Uprising, and apart from personal problems, the characters also struggle with landowner intrigues, cooperation with the Russian invader, economic emigration and the ongoing emancipation of women.
TVP lost millions of viewers. For two reasons
The main character in the series is the titular Matylda Blińska, an 18-year-old whose father was sent to Siberia. A young girl runs away from her hometown and goes to Brzezina, where she discovers the secret of her family and experiences her first love.
According to Nielsen’s data, the adventures of “Matilda” were watched on average by almost two million viewers. This is a great result, which gave the station a large percentage of market share. But now fans of the show are furious, for two reasons.
First of all, it does not plan to continue production. “Matilda” will most likely end with the first season. Polish Television apparently does not have funds to produce new episodes, although Ilona Łepkowska – the series’ artistic supervisor – confirmed that the script for the new series is ready.

Perhaps viewers would cope with the loss more gently if they were satisfied with the series finale. However, even here they have major reservations about the creators. After the premiere of the last episode of “Matilda”, there was a storm on the Internet.
Fans of the series expected a happy ending, but in “Matilda” the villain triumphed. In addition, viewers accuse the creators of not pursuing many threads to the end. “It couldn’t have ended worse.
