“Reindeer” was left behind. Now Netflix is conquering Polish crime fiction, even critics liked it

There has been a reshuffle in the top of the most popular series in Poland. The famous “Reindeer” dropped to third place in the ranking. It was overtaken by, among others, a Polish crime series appreciated by critics.

After the premiere of “Reindeer”, almost everyone talked about it. The inconspicuous series became an international hit and sparked discussions on the Internet about setting boundaries and violence against men. “‘Reindeer’ is a phenomenal study of trauma and an important perspective of a man who, fighting for his dreams and position in a patriarchal world, did not find space within himself to take care of his fear and doubts. Instead, he covered his complexes and shame with another layer of appearances, which ended in his a personal tragedy,” I wrote in my review.

“Reindeer” was left behind. It was overtaken by a Polish crime series

For weeks, the series dominated the top of the most popular streaming service, but now it is giving way to, among others, Polish productions. The latest Netflix data indicate that the most watched series in Poland is currently the third season of “Bridgerton”, while “Reindeer” closes the podium.

“Crusade” came in second place. This is a Polish crime film from 2022 with Tomasz Schuchardt and Julian Świeżewski in the main roles. It tells the story of a commissioner nicknamed Manżaro and his colleagues from the homicide and criminal terror department of the capital police station. Each episode contains its own crime mystery and partial solution. The series tells the story of a series of murders and kidnappings of people from the front pages of newspapers – an influential television journalist, a juror in a talent show, a transvestite politician, a banker. It soon turns out that the series of celebrity murders is the result of an organized operation.

“Crusade” is a hit on Netflix. Critics also praise the series

The production is not only very popular on Netflix, but also received good ratings on the Filmweb website. On a ten-star scale, viewers rated the series an average of 7.1. The reviewers were also kind in their assessments of “The Crusade”.

“First of all, it is an originally written story. The characters in the series are multi-dimensional and it is interesting to observe how they combine their work with their personal lives. Both the protagonists and antagonists are interesting, which is not only related to the way the characters were written , but also with the cast, which managed to convey their character perfectly,” wrote Anna Bortniak from Spiders Web.

“Polish ‘Seven’?” – Witold Mrozek from Gazeta Wyborcza complimented him. “‘Crusade’ is interestingly constructed, there are many surprising twists, and the whole thing – despite a few blunders – is engaging. And it has been so from the first episode,” he added.
