Judi Dench still says about retirement that it’s not time yet, but she is also aware that her vision problems will not disappear. The actress suffers from macular degeneration – a disease that cannot be completely cured and causes narrowing of the field of vision and loss of vision. Dench has not appeared in any new productions for two years because she is unable to read scripts in person. As she says, she is a visual learner: she has to read the text herself to remember it.

that the disease forces her to learn a completely new method of remembering scenarios:

I have a photographic memory, so a situation where someone reads lines for me… I can’t handle that. I need to come up with a new learning method for myself. I realized that I needed to know roughly where my lines were on the script page. I will find a way. I will keep trying until I succeed, she said. – I don’t want to retire. I don’t work much now because I can’t see. It’s bad.

Unfortunately, a year later, during the master floristry show in Chelsea, the actress, asked by the British media whether we would see her in any new production in the near future, replied sadly:

No, I can’t see anything anymore, she replied.

Judi Dench is a multiple BAFTA winner and two-time Golden Globe winner. He has won one Oscar for his role in “Shakespeare in Love” and seven nominations for this statuette. She has been combining work on film sets with work on theater stages for over 60 years. She appeared in seven films from the James Bond series, playing British queens, matrons and high-born ladies. She was perfect in every role. Her last production was “Christmas Spirit” with Will Farrell and Ryan Reynolds.
