After the great revolution, most journalists who had previously been associated with the propaganda of Law and Justice found work at TV Republika. As a result of the changes, the station’s viewership increased significantly. However, a larger number of viewers also means new challenges.
Republika Television is in trouble. The number of advertisements on the station decreased by 70%.
in many ways, it was unprepared for what happened in December 2023. The station needed quick investments and even asked its viewers for help. Tomasz Sakiewicz, president of the station, in an interview with Wirtualne Media explained why such a practice was necessary at that time. “Adopting a team twice as large as we planned this year and expanding the schedule by at least six hours of additional broadcasting. For this you need an investor, and our investor turned out to be the viewers,” he said.
Sakiewicz assured that in the future TV Republika wants to survive on money from advertisers, but even with high viewership it is not an easy task. The content presented on the station may discourage investors. When satirist Jan Pietrzak suggested that migrants’ place was in former camp “barracks”, advertisers reacted immediately. Today, the station is facing further problems.
Advertisers are withdrawing from TV Republika
Like Onet, TV Republika has recently recorded a drastic decline in advertisers. Nielsen data shows that the number of ads broadcast by the station decreased by an average of 70%. compared to last year.
Brands such as: Adamed, mBank, Bank Millennium, OLX Group, Allegro, Kompania Piwowarska, BNP Paribas, Coca-Cola, E. Wedel, Żabka, Mars Polska, Carrefour, Castorama, Carlsberg, Skoda, Netflix, withdrew their advertisements from the station. Nestle, McDonald’s. However, we are not only talking about private giants here. The station also lost advertisements of state-owned companies and institutions such as: Link4, PZU, Tauron, Alior Bank, KGHM, the Office of the Ombudsman for Children, several ministries and the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, which we could see in 2023.
However, the station began to air NBP spots that had not been broadcast before. In addition to the National Bank of Poland, the following companies still advertise on Republika TV: Lidl Polska, Polkomtel, Sandoz, Prima, Reckitt Benckiser, Mondelez, Van Pur Łomża, Grupa Żywiec and Berlin-Chemie.
