Linguist Joaquín Gorrochategui will receive the Euskadi Research Prize 2023

The Eibar linguist Joaquín Gorrochategui will receive the Euskadi Research Prize 2023, by unanimous decision of the jury. Gorrochategui is a professor at the Department of Classical Studies at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) in the area of Indo-European Linguistics.
As reported by the Education Chamber of the Basque Government, the jury, made up of four researchers of recognized prestige in the field of Social Sciences and Humanities, has unanimously approved the favorable resolution of Professor Gorrochategui in this 28th edition of the award.
The objective of the award is to promote scientific activity, as well as to encourage and promote the efforts carried out by researchers and qualified teams from the Basque Autonomous Community and outside it, provided that their work has a positive impact on the community.
Professor Joaquín Gorrochategui Churruca works in the field of historical linguistics, focusing his activity on researching the linguistic situation in Western Europe and especially in the Iberian Peninsula, always combining linguistic and historical data.
