For years, the length of the ovation they receive after the show has been an indicator of the “quality” of a production for many creators. “Horizon: Chapter 1”, the first part of Costner’s American saga, was awarded with seven minutes of applause, although according to other media present at the scene, there could be up to ten minutes of applause and chants of “Kevin, Kevin, Kevin!”. Kevin Costner, clearly moved, admitted that this was a special moment for him:
I’m sorry it took you so long to clap for me to finally realize I had to say something. It was a good time, not only for me, but also for the actors who followed me, for the people who believed in me and worked with me. It’s an interesting business and I’m happy to be in it. There is no other place like this. I will never forget it, neither will my children, he said with tears in his eyes.
“Horizon: Chapter 1” is, as the name suggests, only the first picture in the entire Western series that Costner produced. This is the actor’s life’s work – a dream project in which he wrote, directed, played the main role and also took financial risks. The three-hour saga about the hardships of European colonists in North America will hit cinema screens at the end of June, with the next part in August. Coster announced that parts three and four will also be made.
Kevin Costner has been dreaming about “Horizon” for over 30 years – that’s how long he’s been waiting for the right team of actors and financial independence. And at the right moment. He had just appeared in the well-received series “Yellowstone”, which was a sign for him that people wanted to watch movies about the Wild West again. Previously, although he tried to interest production companies in “Horizon” shortly after “Dances with Wolves” and “Lawlessness”, he never received the green light (and money) to make his dream come true.
What is “Horizon. Chapter 1” about?
“Horizon” is intended to show the fate of settlers arriving from Europe to the United States. Kevin Costner will focus on the time before and during the Civil War in four films. The plot of the series itself is kept secret, but the trailer shows that “Horizon” will show the hardships of the next generation of settlers trying to find their place to live in the American wasteland. They have to cope not only with flora and fauna, but also with local political systems, bandits and indigenous peoples who are reluctant to leave their areas.
How will this film be different from others in the same genre? We won’t find out until the end of June. Kevin Costner himself appeared in Costner’s production. Apart from him, there are: Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington and Giovanni Ribisi. Costner also gave one of his children a chance – his own son, Hayes, played the role of the main character’s son.
