The International Cynological Federation recognizes 340 different breeds, but in reality there are more because there are many associations that recognize, for example, hybrids. Breeds are divided into groups and sections according to their utility. Some dogs have completely different requirements than others. They also differ in character and susceptibility to diseases. Veterinarian Amir Anwary talked about five breeds that he would not take under his roof.
What dog breeds are most likely to get sick? The vet has no doubts
The first race he mentions is border collie. In recent years, this working shepherd dog has gained considerable popularity in Poland, but not everyone realizes how demanding they are. “This breed is designed to graze sheep on a farm, so it’s extremely difficult to keep them happy in the city,” Amir said. Border collies are also very susceptible to dysplasia and arthritis, so the future owner will have to take into account the costs of treatment.
Amir Anwary also advises against a small one cavalier king charles spaniel, who very often suffers from heart disease. It is common for these dogs to die young or have to be on medication for life. The vet would also not recommend purchasing a dog brachycephalic breeds, i.e. pugs, English and French bulldogs. These animals have trouble regulating their body temperature and have trouble breathing.
What breed of dog is the best? The Doberman and the Great Dane are not among the top dogs
They also landed on the list dobermans, who are susceptible to a heart disease called dilated cardiomyopathy. – Because of this, they will require regular check-ups and may need to take medication for the rest of their lives – explained the veterinarian. The last race are Great Danes, which live for a maximum of seven or eight years. They often struggle with joint diseases and dysplasia. If you feel like it, vote in our poll below.
