Stephen King fascinated by the new Netflix series: “absorbing”. Now he is waiting for the second season

From time to time, Stephen King recommends a production on his social media profiles that made a great impression on him. This time it’s a Netflix series. “Thought-provoking, absorbing” – this is how King describes the production he watched. What series is it about?

Receiving praise from viewers and critics is one thing, but receiving literary icons is something completely different. Netflix’s latest science fiction series, an adaptation of the novel “The Three-Body Problem” by Liu Cixinhas gained just such recognition.

The series, taking place in different timelines, traces the consequences of one key event from the 1960s in China that threatens the entire world in 2024. The production was created in cooperation with the showrunners of “Game of Thrones”, David Benioff and DB Weiss, as well as Alexander Woo (“True Blood”). The cast includes stars such as Liam Cunningham, Jovan Adepo, Eiza González, Jess Hong, Benedict Wong, Alex Sharp, Marlo Kelly, Jonathan Pryce, Rosalind Chao and John Bradley.

King on “The Three-Body Problem”

on his popular X (formerly Twitter) account, he shared his thoughts on the new Netflix sci-fi series, calling it “extraordinary.” In his post he wrote:

The Three-Body Problem (Netflix): An extraordinary science fiction series – sprawling, thought-provoking, absorbing. The “first contact” scenes are terrifying and inspiring.

Netflix has committed to bringing the series to an end!

Just a few days ago, the future of the series was unknown. Many reviews from critics and viewers agree with King’s description, expressing similar opinions about this science fiction production. However, the reception was not entirely positive. “The Three-Body Problem” scored a modest 79% on Rotten Tomatoes, where 84 of 106 critics rated the show as “fresh.” Despite positive reviews, critics also noted the series’ flaws. Netflix kept fans in suspense for 2 months, but on May 16 the official announcement was made – there will be a second season!

Popularity of the series on Netflix

in the way the website expected. Although it initially reached number one after its premiere, it was quickly dethroned by other productions. Despite this, “The Three-Body Problem” was so popular among viewers that it remained in the top 10 series on the platform for several weeks.

Fans want the adaptation of the “Memory of Earth’s Past” trilogy to end. In an interview with Collider, David Benioff and DB Weiss discussed how many seasons they would need to complete their version of Liu Cixin’s trilogy. The pair of directors stated: “There are three books. The first season roughly follows the plot of the first book, and the second season probably roughly follows the plot of the second book. The third book is huge. It’s twice as long, I think, as the other two books, so maybe it’s one season, maybe two. But I think we would need at least three, maybe four seasons to tell the whole story.”
