This is Disney’s biggest hit this year. They were supposed to finish with one, there will be three seasons

This is certain – work is underway not only on the second season of the hit “Shogun”, but also on… the third one. The creators, who had previously announced that the series would end with the end of the book material, gave up when they saw the results.

For over two weeks, fans of the latest film adaptation of James Clavell’s novel “” have been feeling abandoned. The Tuesday delivery of new episodes has ended, the series has tied up all the threads and the grand finale has come. Viewers were warned that there was no point in counting on subsequent episodes – the book’s story about the fate of Toranaga and Blackthorne ends and there is no literary continuation, which is why the series, which is a film adaptation of the novel, will not continue to “invent” the plot. However, it turns out that money can really open any door, even those that are closed.

Disney Plus and FX are working on the second and third “Shogun”

And here is the official confirmation – the main producer of “Shogun”, FX, has actually started working on the second and immediately third seasons of its hit. This does not mean that we are 100% certain that further episodes will be created at all. In a statement sent to the American press, FX states that work is ongoing and is aimed at finding out whether it is even possible to create a sequel to the story.

FX, Hulu and James Clavell’s heirs are working on a continuation of the very well-received “Shogun”. We would like to expand the saga into two additional seasons of the show. The work includes existing experts, partners and creators: Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo, Michaela Clavell and Hiroyuki Sanada. No specific dates have been set yet, but the so-called “The ‘writers’ room’ is ready and starts working this summer,” they wrote.

Although the first season of “Shogun” ends in the same place as the original book, the producers and screenwriters are not completely helpless and do not have to invent everything out of thin air, i.e. out of their heads. The vast majority of characters who happily survived until the last episode have their counterparts in real Japanese history. Their further fate is known, although it was not written down by James Clavell. Toranaga (in reality Ieyasu Tokugawa) can still plot, Blackthorne (William Adams) cannot count on retirement in England, to which he will never return as his ruler announced. Perhaps we will see what will happen in Edo’s famous pleasure district, Mrs. Gin’s dream that Toranaga promised to fulfill. Portuguese missionaries will still be present on the islands, hatching their own schemes. In short – there is more than enough historical material and they will undoubtedly fill not only the next two seasons, but also dozens of series. We can only keep our fingers crossed, because although Japan has been a great topic and inspiration for the West for years, we still know far too little about its history.

The creators now face a difficult task – to write subsequent parts of the series in such an interesting way as James Clavell did. The writer had a great sense of the Japanese spirit and his Asian saga is filled to the brim with small but extremely juicy tidbits that give insight into the way of thinking of the Japanese. Will the writers be able to maintain the high level in the next seasons? I can only keep my fingers crossed.
