A few days ago, the portal received shocking information about the extensive assets of Tadeusz Rydzyk’s father. Although the financial empire of the most famous clergyman in Poland has been controversial for years, this time there is no shortage of surprises. While most Poles struggle with the severe effects of inflation, and buying a studio apartment or even renting one in a big city is often a miracle, Father Rydzyk does not have to worry about his financial future. It turns out that a significant part of his fortune consists of gifts from private individuals.
According to reports from “Wprost”, retired women who are also listeners of “Radio Maryja” are able to sign over entire apartments and land to him. “The assets of the Lux Veritatis foundation and people associated with Father Tadeusz Rydzyk have increased over the years not only with donations made by the faithful or ‘cars from the homeless’, but also with real estate throughout the country (…). Father Director benefited from the favor of the authorities and the generosity of the listeners,” we read in the report by Piotr Barejka and Szymon Krawiec.
Father Tadeusz Rydzyk received apartments and land from pensioners
Journalists also mention what exactly the foundation and people from Rydzyk’s environment have at their disposal. And these include: school, i.e. the Academy of Social and Media Culture in Toruń, geothermal energy, Radio Maryja, Telewizja TRWAM – according to “Wprost” estimates, in total it is worth at least one billion zlotys.
Although Tadeusz Rydzyk fiercely defends himself against such accusations, for the last 8 years of PiS rule, the Lux Veritatis foundation could count on generous support from the ruling party. The text indicated that the government was to provide over PLN 220 million for the construction of the “Memory and Identity” Museum. Saint John Paul II (initiative of the Lux Veritatis foundation). In turn, over PLN 50 million was to be allocated for the above-mentioned geothermal energy, TRWAM Television was to receive PLN 30 million, and AKSiM – several dozen million – we read.
Rydzyk swears that his impressive fortune comes mainly from “modest” donations of the faithful. This is not entirely a lie, because Radio Maryja supporters – mainly older people – can provide the foundation with a lot of support. Senior women sign over their apartments, properties in attractive locations and land to him. For example, in 2008, 84-year-old Mrs. Irena gave Father Rydzyk an 84-square-meter apartment in Wrocław. According to “Wprost” reporters, he was supposed to sell the apartment in 2015. In turn, Mrs. Halina from Lublin was to give a 35-square-meter apartment to the Redemptorist’s foundation in 2016.
Plot and house in exchange for “food, fuel, light and funeral”
However, the most shocking story is from 2009. Then – as we read – Father Rydzyk’s foundation “took over approximately 26 ares of agricultural land and forest in Kazimierz Dolny from 83-year-old Mrs. Krystyna.” According to the information obtained by the authors of the text from local entrepreneurs, buying a plot of land in this place is quite a challenge, and the area can cost a fortune.
The plot, on which the house is also located, is located on the outskirts of the city, on the picturesque Vistula escarpment. The land and mortgage register of the property states that the Lux Veritatis Foundation purchases the property from an 83-year-old woman, but has certain obligations towards her. He must accept her as a member of his household, provide her with food, clothing, light, fuel, provide her with appropriate assistance and care in sickness, and arrange for her at his own expense to have a funeral in accordance with local customs.
– we read on the “Wprost” website. The website adds that the woman died in April 2022, and in the fall there was an announcement that the property was for sale. However, the banner disappeared after some time, and the house still belongs to Lux Veritatis. It is also worth mentioning that the foundation owns real estate in Warsaw (luxury apartments), on the Baltic Sea and in the mountains. The properties are run by entities related to the Redemptorists, we read.
