Dorota Wellman sharply about changes in TVP
Dorota Wellman has no doubt that the changes in the public media were carried out without a major plan and without thinking through various things. As a result, old staff were replaced with even older ones, and TVP itself lost a lot. Although Telewizja Polska would now like to position itself as the “new BBC” – neutral and for everyone, Poland and the media in our country have already changed so much that such an ideal may be unattainable because it will be too boring for viewers:
I have the impression that the change in public media has not been prepared in advance. We want to take over the public media, make them high-quality and authoritative media, but we come and our only idea is to take down the previous ones, put in the right ones and put back those from eight years ago – criticizes Wellman.
The world has changed and television has changed. There is no return to “Teleexpress” from eight or 18 years ago, because the world has changed and television has changed a lot due to the influence of the whole world and we should keep up with it. In my opinion, it was a completely accidental takeover of public television and the question was: what next? It’s not cool, it’s not good and it’s not done well – he adds.
The changes in TVP started primarily with the news program – TVP Info and the program transmitting the evening news to all viewers of Telewizja Polska. “Wiadomości” disappeared and in its place was a completely new one, with new faces and without the famous “horror strips” “7:30 p.m.”. However, the polarized audience, accustomed to pitting one group against another, received “7:30” not with relief, but with nervousness. “19:30” is a much calmer version of “Wiadomości”, it shows a more balanced image of society and gives a voice to those groups that have been marginalized or shown in an extremely negative light in recent years. “7:30” radiates peace, but it also inevitably brings associations with boredom, as Wellman says:
“19:30” bores me so much that around 7:31 p.m. I switch to TVN24 because I won’t bother, explains the journalist.
