This year has ended. But Ireland placed equally high in the Final and shocked the audience with its first performance. A unique understanding has been established between artists from both countries – Nemo and Bambie Thug describe themselves as non-binary people and the victory of one of them is, in a sense, the victory of the entire community. Bambie Thug decided to reward Nemo with more than just a Eurovision trophy.
Eurovision 2024. Bambie Thug crowned Nemo
, and behind the scenes, in the so-called “green-room” for all delegations taking part in the competition, a crown of thorns appeared on Bamba’s head. This is a symbolic reference to their slogan “crown the witch”, which is what they encouraged Eurovision viewers to do, first in the semi-final and later in the final of the competition. “Crown the witch” became Bambie Thug’s slogan, but when it was clear that Ireland would not win, the crown was passed to Switzerland.
As soon as Nemo’s victory was announced, the Bambie Thugs ran up to the Swiss delegation and forced the crown of thorns onto Nemo’s head. Nemo went on stage wearing an uncomfortable gadget, as can be seen in the photos and videos:
This is a special moment for the LGBT community and non-binary people, because Nemo is the first person identifying as non-binary to win the competition. Nemo raised this issue at a press conference after the victory. They made no secret of the fact that their relationship with Bambie Thug was special:
We also want to mention Bambie Thug here. We talked this morning and knowing that we are not the only non-binary people this year, that we are here together – it is beautiful. We share many of the same experiences, although we are so different – said Nemo.
Regardless of Nemo himself, Switzerland enjoyed very high ratings from the very beginning of Eurovision. Viewers were slightly more likely to point to Croatia’s victory. Baby Lasagna lost in the final straight with the jury votes – the rhythmic “Rim Tim Tagi Dim” received “only” 210 points from the jury, while “The Code” from Switzerland received as many as 365 points. If the jurors rated it better (e.g. at the expense of other countries, not necessarily Switzerland, which is excellent this year), next year’s Eurovision could go to Zagreb, where the competition viewers would see it. The Croatians were awarded 337 points, the Swiss – 226. The 44-point difference in this case is really minimal.
