Many students study at universities in another city because they cannot afford to rent a room or apartment, and the queues for dormitories are getting longer every year. Balancing work and studying full-time studies can be difficult. However, this problem does not only concern Poles.

At the end of April, one of the TikTok users, Ness, known on the platform as @precarious_sagittarius, published a video in which she showed her “room”. A student at Durham University lives in the basement and pays £700 a month for accommodation, i.e. approximately PLN 3,500. To say that the video shocked Internet users is a huge understatement. The condition of the room leaves much to be desired.
Ness herself honestly admitted that she was struggling with many problems. Humidity, spiders, “Baltic” temperatures and a barred window mean that, despite the additions that make the room look cozy, the room still resembles a prison cell.
She showed a microscopic and barred window covered with mold, which Ness admitted had appeared during her absence over Easter. It goes straight onto the street and you can see that it is in very bad condition. The student admitted that it was not airtight and that when it rained, water poured into her room.
Internet users were not impressed. “I would be afraid all the time”
Some in the comments emphasized that Ness did her best to make the room look nice and cozy. However, the vast majority pointed out that, according to British law, renting such a room is illegal, not to mention the price paid for it.
