Times are changing, but some things remain the same – housework was and still is a not-so-liked activity that is most often postponed as much as possible. Tomek Pazdyk, while browsing a periodical from 1998, came across an article about how cleaning was done back then. In today’s episode, “Myka” checked whether these tricks really work.

Before the first household chemicals products were created, mainly water was used for cleaning. However, the Babylonians already had their own way of fighting dirt. They “cleaned” the objects around them with a mixture of water, fat and gunpowder they had invented. Years pass and people have more and more ways to keep their apartment clean. However, they often like to return to patents from years ago. So what were used in the late 1990s? Watch the latest episode of “Myk”.

How was cleaning done in 1998? Beer, oil, ash… Does it really work? We checked

The first trick that Tomek Pazdyk tested, it concerned the care and maintenance of furniture. In an article from 1998, it was written that “oak and mahogany furniture is perfectly cared for by warm, light beer”, which gives it a shine. As it turned out, this patent worked great. – It polishes fantastically and makes our surface shine. This is extraordinary, Tomek noted.

Another trick that has also worked is to remove white water marks from the wood. To get rid of them, rub the stained area with a cork dipped in a mixture of vegetable oil and cigarette ash. Effect? No trace! – Once again we prove that the advice from 1998 works – concluded our tester.

However, it turns out that not all patents are worth attention. Two of the tested methods simply did not work. We are talking about removing small scratches from a wooden surface with Vaseline and using talcum powder, paper and an iron to remove a stearin stain.
