Anna Maria Weso³owska was the star of one of the most popular Polish paradocumentaries. After finishing the recordings for the program, the lawyer retreated into the shadows, where, as it later turned out, she had to face a personal drama.

Anna Maria Wesołowska went straight to the screen in the courtroom, where she became the star of a para-documentary broadcast on TVN based on the German format “Richter Alexander Hold”. The Polish program, similarly to the original, was titled after the main character, “Judge Anna Maria Wesołowska”.

The para-documentary was recorded for five years, during which as many as 12 series of several dozen episodes were created. Although the program quickly gained viewers’ sympathy, mainly due to the topic, Anna Maria Wesołowska was initially not convinced about her participation in the project. “I knew that this program was important and had to be created – regardless of whether with or without me. When I received such an offer, I couldn’t decide for half a year,” she explained in an interview with Plejada.

The lawyer was convinced that the best person to play the role of a TV judge would be someone younger, who has more strength and willingness to take part in non-professional endeavors. However, she was aware that a person with less experience might not be able to cope mentally with the sensation caused by the judge’s presence on TV screens at that time. “At the beginning, my program was treated as ‘antics’ on television. I was accused of doing it for money and popularity. I was not seen as having a mission. And I didn’t need fame,” added Anna Maria Wesołowska in an interview for Plejada.

In 2011, the paradocumentary taking place in the courtroom was taken off the air. Anna Maria Wesołowska was still actively involved in her professional life, but outside the spotlight. A few years later, the lawyer experienced a personal tragedy. In 2019, she buried her beloved husband Ryszard, with whom she was soon to celebrate their 50th anniversary. “I cannot survive my mourning for my husband. She is a part of me and let it stay that way. The fear and grief will remain until the end,” said Anna Maria Wesołowska in “Dzień Dobry TVN”.

In addition to the death of her husband, the lawyer also had to deal with brain cancer. In 2019, she underwent surgery. Health problems coincided with the start of recordings for the continuation of the program, this time broadcast on TTV. Considering her work on the set, Anna Maria Wesołowska even asked doctors not to shave her entire head. In response, she was supposed to hear: “You can die, what are you talking about? What recordings?”

Meanwhile, the operation not only saved her life, but also allowed her to return to full professional activity. In 2020, Anna Maria Wesołowska published an e-book for young people, titled “Stalking, possession of drugs and other prohibited acts. Legal guide for young people (and not only)”. In 2021, she became a grandmother for the sixth time.
