Junior Eurovision 2024, the first edition based in Spain of the children’s version of the famous musical festival, will be held on November 16 in Madrid, as announced by those responsible this Friday at a press conference. The contest will again be broadcast on Saturday after being held on Sunday for eight years.
This was confirmed by Radiotelevisión Española in a press conference held this Friday in Malmö, where celebrates adult Eurovision. The final of the children’s Eurovision Song Contest will be the first Eurovision event that Spain hosts since the adult contest of 1969.
The selected venue will be the Caja Mágica, in collaboration with the city council, which has also hosted other events of magnitude, for example, the Madrid Open tennis or the 2010 MTV Europe Music Awards. The edition, whose deadline presentation of songs will open next May 14, it will be even more special because Spain celebrates the 20th anniversary of María Isabel’s victory with ‘Better dead than simple’.
A city that welcomes “with open arms”
“It is a city with a tradition of welcoming everyone with open arms”, highlighted Ana María Bordas, head of the Spanish delegation at Eurovision and Director of Content at RTVE, when mentioning qualities of the chosen city. She, in turn, thanked all the cities that applied to host the event and pointed out that the availability of the venues was especially important in the election.
“I think that we are very prepared for it and that we want to do it,” said the RTVE board, which has taken on the challenge of hosting the children’s contest before the situation of the current winner, Francewhich had already held two consecutive editions and is focused on the imminent Paris Olympic Games.
At Junior Eurovision 2023, held in Nice (France), The Spanish candidate Sandra Valero was the second classified thanks to his song ‘Loviu’, hence the offer for Spain to pick up the gauntlet for the French country. Lastly, Bordas promised “a good show with a lot of thought for children, so that they can spend a great weekend in Madrid in a safe environment for them.”
