Not all the tributes in the world would settle the debt that Spanish music owes to Antonio Vega. That boy from a good family who found his voice on a guitar and that he said that he would “never” see himself “living off anything other than” music. And thank goodness she didn’t.

The young man from Majadahonda came to the Madrid Movida to say “this is how it’s done.” When the norm was to get on stage and have fun, Nacha Pop added talent. This is what Vega did with ‘The girl from yesterday’, that hymn that he composed on the Malvarrosa beach in Valencia. The success was so great that it got out of hand and it was about to eclipse an entire repertoire. A song that he said he did not play or perform “so that people realize that (…) it is only a very small part” of his story.

Vega told us in his songs about his obsessions, such as physics, space, love or drugs, however, he always maintained that he was “a rather shy person with a tendency to always withdraw and be discreet”. Even so, his legacy has caused Madrid to hold a concert on May 12 to commemorate 15 years since his death.
