Choosing for your child is not an easy task. We assume that he will wear them throughout his life. It’s no wonder that some parents work hard for months to come up with one that will fit their child, and at the same time sound nice and be easily identified with the baby. However, it turns out that some people choose options that the Polish Civil Registry Office is unable to accept. In addition, there are also recommendations from the Polish Language Council.
What competences does the Polish Language Council have? They advise on choosing names for children
The Polish Language Council was established in 1996. Its task is to issue opinions on the use of the language in various situations and contexts. Council representatives propose linguistic forms if there are doubts about them, resolve doubts and look for solutions, and express opinions on the linguistic form. You can find the marital status tab on the website. There are several examples of names that are not recommended in Poland, and the official will probably refuse when new parents ask for it.

What names cannot be given to a child? The popular spice is out. The Polish Language Council does not recommend it
The official has the right to refuse to give the child a name that would be ridiculous, indecent, in a diminutive form or would make it impossible to distinguish the child’s gender. It is recommended to give them in the Polonized form, i.e. Katarzyna, not Katherine, Alicja, not Alice.
It was also noted that names should not come from common words. For this reason, parents who want to name their child after Gździek, meaning a popular spice in our country, will probably be refused. The situation is similar with Antena, Bławatek, but also with names derived from geographical names, such as Korea, Europa, Dakota. If you feel like it, vote in our poll below.
