American singer Madonna opened its historic free concert this Saturday on Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro, before an audience estimated at 1.5 million viewers, with ‘Nothing Really Matters’ (1998), considered one of his most personal songs.
The world queen of pop appeared in the 812 meter stage squares mounted on the sands of the most emblematic beach of this Brazilian city wearing a black kimono over short dark clothes and was applauded by her hundreds of thousands of unconditional admirers, some of whom waited for her for almost twelve hours to guarantee themselves the most next.
The person responsible for presenting the concert was Bob The Drag Queen, who performed ‘Its a celebration’ dressed as Queen Marie Antoinette in reference to the outfit worn by Madonna to present “Vogue” at the 1990 MTV Awards.
The audience was already excited when their idol appeared, at 10:36 p.m. local time (1:36 GMT on Sunday), almost an hour late, as the American DJ Diplo was in charge of warming up the engines with a selection that included several classics of funk, the genre born in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro.
With this Saturday’s concert Madonna ends the tour commemorating his 40 years of career, ‘Celebration Tour’, in which he reviews his entire career and which included his biggest hits, such as ‘Like a Virgin’, ‘Vogue’, ‘Holiday’, ‘Like a Prayer’ and ‘La Isla Bonita’ ‘. The show, with the participation of popular Brazilian artists such as Anitta and Pabllo Vittar, is expected to last two hours and conclude with ‘Celebration’.
The concert is historic for Madonna, who has never played for such a large audience. The American can surpass the mark achieved by the Rolling Stones in February 2006when they also attracted 1.5 million people to Copacabana beach.

The massive mobilization caused by Madonna, especially of women and the LGBT public, forced the authorities to close all access to the Copacabana neighborhood for vehicles almost five hours before the start of the show and to set up an infrastructure similar to that used in the festivals of Reveillon, when up to three million people say goodbye to the year in this arena.
