Walczewski’s first wife was Anna Polony, whom he met during his third year of studies. They got married in 1961. After 13 years of marriage, the couple separated amid a scandal. Walczewski became involved with Małgorzata Niemirska, known for her role as the telegraphist Lidka from the series “Four tank men and a dog”, whom he met during rehearsals for the play “Desperaci”. To be together, she also had to end her marriage to Andrzej Makowiecki. these caused a storm in the Krakow artistic community. Their friends turned their backs on them for some time. Years later, Niemirska confessed that Walczewski initially hid from her that he was married. – He led a lifestyle that did not indicate that he was married. This topic was not between us. I found out that he was married and with whom he was married when it was too late. It was like God giggling […] I think it would be a greater sin for us to break up, looking back on what we were to each other. It was impossible to do otherwise. […] It’s hard for me to talk about it. Anna Polony is a wonderful actress. […] I never thought our lives would turn out this way. […] This all lasted only three months. […] We were already a couple in March, we got married in December, and in the meantime we went through two divorces. It was, as the French say, a coup de foudre, a lightning strike – an actress for “Gazeta Wyborcza”.
A disease that made him fade away day by day. The actor could count on his wife’s support until his death
Walczewski and Niemirska got married in December 1974. In 2000, the actor was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. All this after he almost killed himself and his wife while driving a car. The changes in the brain progressed day by day, despite therapy and drugs that slowed down the disease. In 2003, Walczewski stopped acting in the theater. He had problems with expressing himself and had accidents that happened to him more and more often. In 2004, the actor’s wife placed him in a specialist center near Warsaw, where he was provided with round-the-clock care. He spent the last five years of his life there. Niemirska visited him almost every day. In one of them, she revealed her husband’s last words. – I stood at the door and his eyes got bigger and he said: ‘Małgol, you are so beautiful.’ The nurses were astonished, I cried, because he hadn’t spoken for a long time – revealed the actress.
