She thought they were meant to be together. The honeymoon was the beginning of the breakup. “Why did God punish me with it?”

Although Violetta Villas was a great star on the stage, she was unlucky in love. When, after two failed relationships, she met an American millionaire with Polish roots, she thought that fate had finally smiled on her. After a few months, they decided to get married, but the idyll ended when they returned from their honeymoon.

she was only 17 years old when her father married her to lieutenant Piotr Gospodarek. In 1956, their son was born, and less than a year later the artist left her family to study in Szczecin. After the divorce, she became involved with a music critic, who was her great love. However, the feeling was ruined when, after returning from the USA, she found out that her beloved had married another woman.

He was Villas’ second husband. She met him while on tour in the USA

Villas healed her broken heart by throwing herself into her work and responsibilities. In the fall of 1987, she went overseas again to go on another career tour with the Syrena Theater. One of the performances took place at the “Orbit” club in Chicago, after which she had the pleasure of meeting its owner. Tadeusz “Ted” Kowalczyk immediately caught her eye, but he was the one who made the first move. They started dating and she eventually extended her stay so they could get to know each other better.

Their relationship was developing well and only a few weeks later, just before the singer’s return to her homeland, her beloved asked her to marry him. – He bought me a ring and said “you won’t go to Poland without a ring.” It was romantic! When he proposed, he bought flowers and fell on his knees – a few years later in “Fakt”. The separation lasted several months, but it felt like it lasted forever. After a few months, she returned to the USA to formalize the relationship, as previously agreed.

1,500 people attended their wedding. His beloved gave Villas expensive gifts

On January 6, 1988, Villas and Kowalczyk organized a grand wedding that lasted for 5 days. 1,500 people took part in it, and the organization spent over 300,000 dollars. The singer not only wore 21 outfits from the best designers, but was also given expensive gifts by her loved one, including: white mink fur or a black Cadillac, which at that time was worth less than $40,000.

The young couple went on honeymoon to Honolulu, but soon after returning they stopped getting along. Villas complained that her lover was morbidly jealous of her, which made her feel like “a bird locked in a golden cage.” In turn, Kowalczyk resented her for denying him affection and called her a devotee. The fact that the man was already married in the church added fuel to the fire, which he forgot to mention to her. The artist was under the illusion that she would go down the aisle with him and demanded that he explain the matter as soon as possible. – For me this sacrament was very important and it made love leave me. Ted Kowalczyk ignored my desire, she said years later.

After another quarrel, Villas decided to return to Poland, and Kowalczuk filed for divorce. He willingly gave interviews to the press, reporting in detail what life was like with her. – Life with Violetta was like playing in a thriller movie. All the time action! No guy has ever experienced anything like this. I don’t know what the hell God punished me for with Violetta?! – he became emotional in an interview with “Super Express”. For Villas, the breakup was a personal defeat. She never trusted any man again and poured all her love into homeless animals.
