In recent weeks, the film “Fuck Mickiewicza” has been a hit in Poland. This is a production by Sara Bustamante-Drozdek with a script by Kacper Szymański, which had its cinema premiere on January 12. The film tells the story of Jan Sienkiewicz (Dawid Ogrodnik), who loses his job at the university and starts his career as a Polish teacher at a high school. The worst class in school is under his care.
The new leader in the Polish Netflix ranking
Currently, the viewing leader on Polish Netflix is a slightly older production. Poles began to watch “Where the Crawdads Sing”, a crime drama by Olivia Newman from 2022. The film is an adaptation of the book of the same title by Delia Owens, it tells the story of a mysterious swamp girl in the town of Barkley Cove. Despite the great popularity of the production, opinions about the film are not the best.
On Filmweb, Polish critics rated “Where the Crawdads Sing” 4 out of 10 stars. “The latest hit for Saturday from the generator, which will make every interaction unbelievable for the individual sighs of bookaholics from Tumblr” – Maciej Roch Satora summed up the film. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film scored just 35 percent on the critics’ freshness scale, while audiences were much kinder (96 percent).

“It passes the original story through the Hollywood machine, making it superficial and formulaic. It dilutes the emotional depth of the source material,” writes Prabhjot Bains of Tilt Magazine. “For the most part, it’s like a bad soap opera,” adds Jennie Kermode of Movie Gurus. “It would be better if it ended up in the garbage,” says Scott Tobias from Variety.
The second part of “Rebel Moon” by Zack Snyder ends on the podium of the Polish film summary of the past week on Netflix. The production was also crushed by critics. On Rotten Tomatos, it scored just 15 percent fresh from verified reviewers.
