“Tasio” will be restored in Cannes
Euskaraz irakurri: “Tasio” films Cannesen emango dute, zaharberrituta
The Basque film Tasio (1984), directed by Montxo Armendáriz and starring Patxi Bisquert, will be screened in its restored form at the next Cannes Film Festival, which will be held from May 14 to 25.
The film will be part of the Cannes Classics section, which this year will open with the premiere of the restored film Napoleon by Abel Gance, a 1927 French film considered one of the great classics of silent cinema.
Tasio has worked as a charcoal burner since he was fourteen years old in the Urbasa mountain range. Although it is the time of emigration to the cities in search of a better future, Tasio prefers to stay and live in the mountains, in absolute solitude, in order to safeguard his freedom.
The restoration of the film has been the work of the Basque Film Archive, and Armendariz himself will attend the screening at the French festival.
