“Quack” has been adapted into three films. Who was responsible for their implementation?
The failure was actually good for Dołęga-Mostowicz, because he adapted “The Quack” into a novel, which debuted on the publishing market in 1937, achieving incredible success. Following the book’s popularity, in the same year Michał Waszyński decided to make a film adaptation in which he entrusted Kazimierz Junosz-Stępowski with the title role. Exactly 45 years after the premiere of the original, its next installment was made by the outstanding . He succeeded brilliantly, because the film, which featured a galaxy of the biggest stars, such as Jerzy Biñczycki in the main roles, is today considered a classic of Polish cinema.
Michał Gazda also decided to return to the story of the professor convicted of quackery. In his version, produced in 2024 for , he created the title character. However, the film is not a faithful imitator of its predecessors, nor is it fully consistent with the novel, because it does not reflect the realities of the times described by the author. Despite this, it turned out to be a real hit, breaking viewing records.
