In 2019, the film “Platform” appeared on Netflix and caused considerable disgust among viewers. Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia’s production tells the story of a dystopian world set in the future, where food is left on a special platform in multi-level prisons. The inmates from the higher levels can fill their stomachs, but those from the bottom are left only with hunger and rage.
This film was outrageous, disgusting and terrifying. VIEWERS had a hard time watching it
The story about social inequalities in a world ruled by fear and hunger was moving due to its topicality. – People said, “This is the perfect time for a movie like this because the gap between those who have the most and those who have the least has never been greater than it is now.” I replied: “Actually, it’s always the perfect moment to show a film like ‘Platform’, because we have always lived in times when the differences were clear,” Onet portal recalls the director’s words.
Film from festivals went to streaming around the outbreak of the pandemic. The content of the production hit the audience with double force. In times of the greatest uncertainty in recent decades, we have seen the struggle for material goods with our own eyes. Empty shelves in stores and competition for vaccines have become a real problem for societies around the world.
There will be a second part of the film “Platform”. It will appear on Netflix
However, viewers were most affected by the fact that the film is very macabre, heavy and contains a lot of violence. “I’m glad I saw this movie, I think about it a lot, but I will never, ever watch it again,” writes one critic on Rotten Tomatoes. “It is a very intense, drastic film with macabre images”, “It is disturbing with the amount of violence and brutality”, “Such cruel and sadistic productions with a universal message are rare,” write others.
As it turns out, “Platform” will have a sequel. The same director is working on the second part of the film. The cast includes Milena Smit (“Parallel Mothers”) and Hovik Keuchkerian (“House of Cards”). So far, we don’t know much about the film’s plot and we don’t know its premiere date on Netflix. The description states, among other things, that the next part of the production “will force the viewer to face the limits of their own sense of solidarity.”
