Controversy on set
The controversy surrounding “” intensified after Rose Locke Casting, the casting company, resigned from further cooperation with the creators of the series. This decision was made after they appeared on Facebook accusations against Stallone and one of the directors, Craig Zisk, regarding offensive comments about the appearance of some of the extras, calling them “nasty”, “a bathtub of lard” and “a fat guy with a cane”.
Craig Zisk, the director of the series, vehemently denied these allegations in an interview with TMZ, claiming that the casting company did not understand his demands regarding the needs of the hipster bar scene, which needed young people in their 20s and 30s, not older actors. Zisk added that despite the misunderstanding with the agency, the gathered extras were “polite and did their job.” Stallone has not commented publicly on the accusations so far.
Stallone’s answer is… none.
Despite these accusations, it continues to promote the second season of the series, which is broadcast on the Paramount+ platform. In his last Instagram post, published on Monday, Stallone did not directly address the allegations. He posted a photo of himself posing in the costume of Dwight “The General” Manfredi, the main character of the series, with the comment: “The bell is ringing on the set of the second installment of Tulsa King.” There was also information in foreign media that Stallone allegedly suggested that instead of these extras, it would be better to use “attractive young girls who would be visible in his environment”.
Actors’ trade union SAG-AFTRA expressed its opinion on the controversy, stating that “there is no place on a film set for offensive comments towards extras or any performers.”
The series “Tulsa King” follows the story of Dwight “The General” Manfredi, a former mafia boss who, after 25 years in prison, is sent by his boss to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to establish a new criminal empire. Although the first season of the series was very popular, it is unknown whether the controversy will affect the audience’s reception of the second season. In Poland, the series is available on the SkyShowtime platform.
