Most bloodworms feed on algae. They like freshwater environments and adapt to water without any problems. Bloodworms occur practically all over the world, regardless of the climate. They have even been observed in Antarctica. In Poland, they are treated as common insects that occur regardless of the season. The development cycle lasts about 20 days, provided that the bloodworms have favorable conditions for life. They often fall prey to fish, for which they are great food. Interestingly, you can even buy frozen bloodworms to feed your fish in the aquarium.

At night you can see whole swarms of them. Bloodworms like to come together in groups

Bloodworms often rest during the day and form larger groups in the evenings. The fact that they appear next to you can be a nuisance and there is a good chance that you will assume that these insects are mosquitoes. If you spend a lot of time near bodies of water, bloodworms may end up in your ears or mouth. Is it possible to get rid of them? It is worth taking care of the property and trying to ensure that there are not many damp places in the garden. Additionally, you can hang insect traps, but if you have a pond, they will quickly take a liking to them and you are unlikely to get rid of them. However, you don’t have to worry that they will bite you. Unlike mosquitoes, bloodworms do not have this in them. If you feel like it, vote in our poll below.
