First a movie about Jesus, then a movie about Frank Sinatra. 81-year-old Martin Scorsese is not slowing down

After receiving 10 Oscar nominations for last year’s historical crime film “Killers of the Flower Moon”, the 81-year-old director has planned his next projects. Sources say that he plans to shoot two films back to back: the first about Jesus, the second – a biography of Frank Sinatra.

Scorsese wants to make a movie with DiCapiro and Lawrence

After such successes as “The Wolves of Wall Street” and “Shutter Island”, Scorsese once again teams up with Leonardo DiCaprio. The actor is to play the role of the legendary musician Frank Sinatra. This project, reported by Variety, is not new to Scorsese’s plans, but now is taking real shape.

However, a Sinatra film may also face obstacles. The legendary singer’s daughter, Tina Sinatra, controls her father’s fortune and is yet to give her blessing to the film. However, this did not stop Scorsese from assembling a dream cast in which Leonardo DiCaprio would play the singer and Jennifer Lawrence would play his second wife, actress Ava Gardner. It was Gardner who broke up Sinatra’s marriage to Nancy Barbato, Tina’s mother. With such big movie stars in the lead roles, the film is attracting interest from major studios and streaming platforms. Apple, which financed “Flower Moon” for $215 million, would like to continue working with Scorsese, but Sony is reportedly the favorite to get the project.

There is also a film about Jesus on its way to the screens

In addition to this biographical endeavor the director is working on a film about Jesus Christ, based on the book by Shūsaku Endō, author of “Silence”, which was also adapted into a film by Martin Scorsese. The director intends to cast Andrew Garfield in the main role (the actor also played one of the key characters in “Silence”), and Miles Teller is also in talks to join the cast. Production is scheduled to start this year and will include filming in Israel, Italy and Egypt.

Scorsese revealed to the Los Angeles Times that a film about Jesus will focus on his key teachings in a way that is intended to explore principles but not proselytize. “I’m trying to find a new way to make the film more accessible and remove the negative perception associated with religion,” says the director.

Additionally, Scorsese is working on a biblical series for Fox Nation. Additionally, Scorsese’s collaboration with Steven Spielberg on the “Cape Fear” series for Apple TV+ is also on the horizon.
