Running won’t work for all of us. Walks, on the other hand, may seem a bit monotonous and not very dynamic to some people. That’s why slow jogging is such a good alternative. This sport originating from Japan is now gaining popularity all over the world. The technique is extremely simple and effective, as it allows you to burn much more calories than a regular walk. At the same time, we don’t have to worry about getting out of breath every now and then! Slow-jogging does not burden joints and knees, which is particularly important for people struggling with various diseases. And 30 minutes a day is enough, experts advise.
Also called the “Japanese jog”, slow-jogging is a way of running that also strengthens our body’s immunity, thus contributing to a long and healthy life. There is one main rule of slow-jogging is that we must move at a slower pace than jogging. Despite moving our feet, we may be overtaken by, for example, walkers. And that’s the point, because it’s not the pace that really counts, it’s the technique. Slow-jogging may look unusual, but it means that we are not exposed to, for example, numerous micro-injuries that often accompany runners.
The pace we choose should, above all, be comfortable for us, so that we can talk freely, e.g. with the accompanying person, and so that we do not get out of breath. This pace is determined in Japan “niko nico”, which in short means smile. Because that’s what smiling is all about – being able to smile easily during this physical activity. This was the assumption of the scientist who developed this running method. Professor of medical science Hiroaki Tanaka, director of the sports physiology institute at the University of Fukuoka, wanted to find a sport that would be a good solution for everyone – regardless of age, fitness, etc.
Running for dummies? Slow jogging is taking over the world
It is worth adding that “niko nico” it will mean something different for everyone. Trained runners will certainly try to run faster, for beginners the most recommended speed is approximately 5-6 km/h.

However, the technique of putting your foot on the ground is extremely important. It should always land on the ball of the foot. This protects us against loads and injuries that often affect athletes. You also need to remember about the correct posture: your body is upright, your eyes are directed towards the horizon.
However, before we undertake this (or any) physical activity permanently, it is worth checking whether we have any health contraindications. Therefore, you will need to consult a doctor. If there are indeed contraindications to this type of sports, you can successfully choose another physical activity that does not burden the joints and knees, e.g. swimming.
