The First Communion season will begin soon and I regularly come across various articles on this subject. It reminded me of my fight with the priest. Even though it was not about communion, but baptism, I decided to share it. Perhaps someone else was in a similar situation, but unlike me, he left the sacristy with his tail between his legs.
The priest didn’t want to sign the documents for me. I threatened that the child would not be baptized
5 years ago my brother had a daughter. Both my brother and his wife are believers, as is our entire family, including me. I have all the sacraments, but I don’t go to church and I don’t receive a priest at home after Christmas carols. Unfortunately, in my opinion, the Church in Poland has less and less in common with true faith. As soon as my niece was born, my brother asked me to be godmother. Of course, I agreed, and when the time came, I went to the priest from my parish for a certificate.
As soon as I entered the sacristy, I was immediately looked at by the priest. I greeted her politely and explained why I had come. The priest said hello that he didn’t know me, so I guess I’m not a frequent visitor to church. I said directly that for me, being a believer does not mean ostentatiously kneeling in the front pew every Sunday. He snorted something under his breath and took out a book in which he found my name, surname and address.

I was told that I don’t receive the priest after Christmas carols, I don’t support the parish and I don’t go to church, so I can’t become a godmother. I replied that if he had doubts about my faith, we could talk and he would see for himself. However, the priest said that “there is no time for such exams.” My blood pressure rose so much that I thought I was going to boil. I said directly that in that case the child would not be baptized and it would be no one else’s fault but his. He looked at me scowling, took the sheets of paper with the envelope, “whatever you want,” gave back the signed sheets and quickly hid the envelope. I politely said goodbye, turned on my heel and left. I never set foot in that church again.
